March 28th will be Crucolo Day, when the Cheese Department welcomes our annual arrival of this several hundred pound wheel of cheese imported from Northern Italy. It's the biggest cheese west of the Mississippi! Join us on Saturday, March 28 starting at noon for a parade and celebration with music, tastings and giveaways.

The parade starts on Saturday, March 28 at 12pm on the Shafter Avenue side of Rockridge Market Hall.

Crucolo is an artisanal cheese that comes from the Trentino region in northern Italy. The milk to make this cheese is selected from the cows that roam the pastures beneath the Trento Mountains. It is a soft cheese aged for over 60 days in the cellars of Rifugio Crucolo. This unique environment gives the cheese its particular taste and rich aroma.

Crucolo has a surprisingly tangy finish to its creamy flavor and is wonderful on pizza, in grilled cheese or with a lovely glass of wine.

Learn about the story behind the Crucolo Parade on Janet Fletcher's blog, Planet Cheese.
