ABOUT NOTHING FANCY
In "Nothing Fancy: Unfussy Food for Having People Over", Alison Roman reinvents what it means to have people over: relaxed, yet easily impressive. Unfussy food, unfussy vibes and the permission to be imperfect, no occasion necessary (other than to eat, of course). "Nothing Fancy" is organized by what Alison sees are the five most important parts of most meals: Snack Time, Salads, Sides, Mains and After Dinner. Recipes range from dips such as Labne with Sizzled Scallions and Chile (Almost Ranch) and crunchy salads like Spicy Red Cabbage with Sweet Onion and Lime to knockout twists on bean, grain, meat, and fish dishes from Tomato-y Beans with Preserved Lemons and Bread Crumbs to Soy-Braised Brisket with Caramelized Honey and Garlic and Clams and Cod in Heavy Cream with Tiny Tomatoes and Celery. Alison also offers an array of just sweet enough desserts, including Sheet Cake with Mascarpone and Coffee, Salted Panna Cotta with Crushed Raspberries and Coconut Banana Cream Pudding.
