Your Local Economy

The 6000 block of Rockridge is becoming quite a lovely a respite by any urban region’s standards. From yoga at Vita, to a quiet read at East Bay Booksellers, to plant-therapy at Planterday, to sustainable shopping and pampering at Re-Up Refills, not to mention therapy offices, it’s the perfect destination for newcomer, Local Economy.

Couple Alexis Madrigal, co-host of KQED's daily public affairs show “Forum,” and author and creative director Sarah Rich, penned a letter to the community about their new space at 6028 College Avenue:

“HELLO, FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS

We’re long-time residents of this neighborhood and brand-new tenants of this storefront. In this era of isolation and chaos, we’ve been craving a way to strengthen local networks and connect people who live and spend time here. In a few months, we’ll be opening the doors here at Local Economy—a place where a lot of different things will happen, and all of them will serve this community. We’ll be holding workshops and events, hosting readings and pop-ups, serving excellent coffee, selling goods from independent makers, and building a space where we can collectively experiment. We’ll have a membership program that includes special invitations, discounts, and ongoing access to a bundle of things, but membership is not required to come in. Think of it as an open-door club. As a member of this community, we also hope you’ll do things there. Want to teach a class? Organize a discussion? We’d love to hear your ideas. If you’re interested in becoming a member and/or helping us co-create this space, sign up below and we'll reach out soon.”

“Oakland is getting an ambitious new community space from two prominent local writers who hope a combination of coffee, local goods and events will create a much-needed refuge.”
