Bodegas Care ‘Sobre Lias’ 2024 Blanco The original name of today’s Cariñena means, “The Dear Plain” states winemaker Nacho Lázaro. Cariñena is one of the oldest regions in Spain with a hot, dry Mediterranean climate. Our four estates provide 100% of the grapes that give Bodegas Care wines their strength, personality, and character. With our roots in tradition, our wine’s primitive labels, inspired by artist, Enrique Torrijos, depict the many faces that are universally identified and marketed as Care wines. 60% Garnacha Blanco, 40% Chardonnay this is a delicious Mediterranean white. On the nose, fresh clean and intense aromas, especially fruity ones (green apple, pineapple and citrus fruits). On the palate the wine is very fruity with a balanced acidity, it is intense, crisp and refreshing, pairing beautifully with creamy gravy.
Vite Colte “Cà da Bosio” 2023 Gavi del Comune The Cortese grape variety, grown on the hills of the municipality of Gavi (in the province of Alessandria), is used to make a wine that bears the subappellation “del Comune di Gavi”. These vineyards are situated 250-300 metres above sea level, in soils with a mainly sandy marly structure layers of deep marl alternate with sandstone the colors of these soils vary from light brown to very light. This is rich and full, with intense scents of camomile, hay and green tea. Pleasantly dry and crisp, full and deep in the mouth. Soft and silk textured with a persistent linger. A perfect example of a classic Gavi.
Garage Wine Co. 2023 Phoenix Ferment Pais Carinena Derek Mossman, his wife Pilar Miranda, and Dr. Alvaro Peña are producing 1,500 cases total per year of old-vine Carignan, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, with fruit sourced from small growers in Maule and Maipo. Winemaking here veers towards the “natural” spectrum – all wines are fermented with native yeast, see no additions of any kind, very little new wood, and are low in sulfites. You may notice slight variation in bottle thickness and shape if you were to open up cases, as Derek Mossman takes recycling to the next level and actually reuses old bottles, bottling in salvaged, used wine bottles in partnership with a recycling company located near the winery. This is a blend from three vineyard sites in Truquilemu, Sauzal, Aguada, Puico & Puico alto in the Secano Interior Cauquenes appellation. 150 + years old bush-head vines, the vineyards are on the Coastal Range of mountains that are much older than the Andes and more importantly, much slower to cool. Phoenix is sourced from various families who form a part of the Garage Wine Co. working team. It has become a kind of convoy picking day with small quantities picked in various sites. In this way they ensure that more families benefit from the proper price paid for these grapes.
Alta Maria 2021 Chardonnay Alta Maria is the brainchild of viticulturist and winemaker James Ontiveros and Paul Wilkins, friends first, and now collaborators. Highlighting lush, layered flavors, bright acidity and impeccably balanced French oak, Alta Maria is dedicated to crafting wines from the cold and oceanic Santa Maria Valley appellation in Santa Barbara County. Established in 1973, this Bien Nacido vineyard has earned a reputation as one of California’s premier vineyards. Their prized blocks include original 1973 plantings, as well as vines planted in 1991. Grown in soils with abundant limestone, these older vines produce a gorgeous Chardonnay with complex minerality, a lovely texture and multilayered citrus and orange blossom flavors.
Escudo Rojo 2023 Sauvignon Blanc Gran Reserva Located at Buin-Maipo, 45 kilometers south of Santiago in the famous Maipo Valley, the Baron Philippe de Rothschild Maipo Chile bodega stands in its own 63-hectare (156-acre) vineyard. The wines are made, matured, bottled and packaged at the estate under supervision of a French winemaker and under the control of an in-house laboratory. This wine comes from the Valle de Casablanca, situated near the Pacific Coast 80 km north west of Santiago. The ocean influence is very strong, helping to regulate the temperature. It is an ideal country for white wine grape varieties, especially Sauvignon Blanc. Baron Philippe de Rothschild Maipo Chile’s winemakers have chosen the Valle de Casablanca vineyards for their mild climate, which allows the grapes to ripen slowly, and for their soil: silty sand, which favors the refinement and freshness of the fruit, and granitic soil closer to the coastal mountains, which brings elegance. The wines are fresh and mineral, while keeping a certain power and a remarkable balance between alcohol and acidity.
Hogwash 2024 Rose Hogwash is a wine brand sourced from Clarksburg AVA that specializes in Rosé wines. Clarksburg enjoys the maritime influence of the Sacramento Delta, with fog and cool breezes from the SF Bay. Dense clay and loam soils, coupled with consistently warm days and cool evenings, allow for richly flavored and balanced fruit. Shawn Johnson first crafted it at the request of Chef Linton Hopkins for a charity pig roast in Atlanta, Georgia. The name “Hogwash” was jokingly given to the wine by guests enjoying it with the roasted pig, and it stuck!
Daniele Conterno 2023 Barbera d’Alba Superiore Daniele Conterno considers himself a very lucky boy! He does the job he loves and is supported by his large beautiful family in one of the most perfect places in the world. He represents the fourth generation of producers. Starting with Great Grandfather Pietro Conterno and 18 hectares of land. The land passed to his grandfather Giacomo. Then to his father Franco who he still works with everyday. A stunning, elevated Barbera better suited to a romantic evening than pizza night. Deep earthiness grounds an otherwise crystalline, ethereal wine; dried currant, forest floor, and fresh rain are all tied together by silky tannins.
I Lauri Pinciaie 2020 Montepulciano D’Abruzzo DOC Reserva 100% Montepulciano. The grapes come from selected plots in the most suitable areas and are grown up to 700 meters above sea level, where the strong temperature range enhances aromas in their wines. Dark ruby-red with violet undertones. Complex wild berry notes framed by elegant oak spices. Black currant, spicy cherry integrated with hazelnut and coffee. Same juice as Talamonti Tre Saggi. The name “Tre Saggi” (The Three Wise Men) stems from three figures present in a fresco found in the Church of Santa Maria in Piano, located only 4km from the Talamonti vineyard-estate. Ideal for savory first courses, red meats prepared in long cooking, semi-mature and aged cheeses.
Château Hauchat 2019 Fronsac “La Rose” The Saby family has been making wine in Bordeaux for nine uninterrupted generations now, led by heirs to the family passion Jean-Christophe and Jean-Phillippe. Their winery holdings, centered around Libourne, are comprised of 70 hectares and include Château Rozier (Saint Emilion Grand Cru), Château Bertin (Montagne-Saint-Emilion), and Château Hauchat (Fronsac). Saby wines receive regular buzz for good reason – these are rich, balanced examples of high level Bordeaux. This 100% Merlot is a beautiful cherry red color that reminds us of garnets. The aroma of the preserved red fruits mixed with the hints of licorice. The aromas of blackberries and blueberries create a softness and assured bouquet on our palate.
Domaine de Thulon 2022 Beaujolais-Villages Rouge Here we have some classic old vine Beaujolais-Villages! The vineyard situation is both typical and perfect; on a granite hillside with south-west exposure. With an intense, purplish-ruby color, this Beaujolais is packed with delicious aromas of cherry and strawberry that explode from the glass. This farm is located on the old estate of Château de Thulon (15th century) and was purchased by Annie and René Jambon in 1987 after they were “métayers” for 20 years there. Their children Carine and Laurent are now running the estate, and a passion for experimentation sets them apart from peers in the region. These are some of the best values in French wine we’ve come across in the last decade. Try it slightly chilled to bring out more delicate fresh fruit flavors.
Bodegas LAN 21 Rioja “D-12” Bodegas LAN is a relative newcomer to the Rioja scene, having been founded in 1972. The name “LAN” is an acronym for the three provinces that make up Rioja, Logroño, Alava, and Navarra. The spirit of experimentation and innovation permeates the culture at LAN, and winemaker María Barúa is continually pushing the limits and preconceptions people have of the region. D-12 is homage to the workers of LAN. The name is a reference to “DEPOSITO 12,” the stainless-steel tank that holds the wine that, according to LAN winery staff, has the most outstanding attributes of that vintage.
Lorelle 2022 Washington Red Blend Lorelle is produced by John, Lynn, and Andrew Albin, better known as the family trio behind Six Peaks Winery. The fruit for this bottling comes from several vineyards in Willamette Valley, including the two vineyards that sit alongside their home, Laurel and Settler’s Hill. The fruit for this wine comes from den Hoed Vineyard, within the Columbia Valley AVA, where it is a little cooler than other locations in the area. John Albin and Ken O’Hara came up with Lorelle Red Blend looking to create a new staple in the category for our independent restaurant and retail clients. Made from Walla Walla Cabernet Sauvignon (Oidos Vineyard) and Merlot/Cabernet Franc/Malbec from Red Mountain (Aquilini Vineyard), with a naked elevage (used barrel), they’ve hit all the marks with this wine. This wine showcases excellent structure and complexity, making it a superb selection for those seeking a sophisticated, yet approachable red for their holiday tables.
