Pregnancy and Postpartum Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy

At Dr. Lauren’s Rockridge clinic, I specialize in pelvic floor exercises designed for pregnancy and postpartum recovery. As a certified Pregnancy and Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialist, I help women address incontinence, diastasis recti, and pain in the low back, hips, SI joint, pubic symphysis, or pelvic floor (including pain with insertion). I also work with patients experiencing weak abs, poor posture, and tension that can make every day feel harder than it should.

If you’ve recently had a baby, you know how much your body is asked to do — especially before you’ve healed. You’re hunching over to nurse, leaning over the tub to bathe Baby, twisting awkwardly to lift car seats and strollers, all while managing bags of gear on too little sleep. These repeated positions can overload your stretched, weakened core and pelvic floor muscles, leaving you sore, unstable, or unsure how to move without pain.

Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation Therapy

That’s where pelvic floor physical therapy can make a life-changing difference!

Did you know that SI joint and pubic bone pain often come from muscles tugging unevenly on the pelvis? For example, if one hip flexor is tight on one side and your opposite glute or piriformis is tense, it can twist the pelvis and cause irritation where your tailbone and pelvic bones meet—making those joints inflamed and, well, quite grumpy.

Or, on the more intimate side, pain with insertion is often linked to posture, breathing habits, tight hips, or a tailbone that’s just a little off-center. For example, if the front of your pelvis tips forward (anterior pelvic tilt) or your pelvis shifts ahead of your body with a hunched mid-back (swayback posture), the pelvic floor can tighten and ache.

These patterns take a trained eye and a caring touch to unwind. If you’re noticing these symptoms, please look for pelvic floor PT. Because everyone deserves happy hips and a peaceful pelvis!
